The New York State Electric & Gas Corp. and Rochester Gas & Electric Corp. reached a tentative settlement with New York regulators on a rate increase that will begin as soon as the spring, though few details were released.
The deal came after nearly a year of negotiations. It will reportedly take effect in May.
Under the proposed rate increase, NYESG customers would see a rate increase of 23.7 percent, more than $10 a month for the average customer. The average bit would then be no less than $50 for customers each month.
According to reports, the additional revenue generated by NYSEG will be earmarked to bolster the company’s storm response.
NYSEG currently has 15,771 customers in Dutchess County, 5,891 in Orange County and 38,555 in Putnam County.
